Tightrope Walker Between the Loos-en-Gohelle Slag Heaps: A Unique Aerial Show
📅 20 September 2026
📍 Base 11/19, Loos-en-Gohelle
On 20 September 2026, all eyes will turn to the skies above Loos-en-Gohelle: tightrope walker Tatiana Mosio-Bongonga, from the Basinga Company, will perform a breathtaking 400-metre crossing between the two twin slag heaps of the 11/19, at 186 metres high, without a safety net or harness. An unprecedented show in the heart of the Bassin minier, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
🤸♀️ An exceptional performance — This high-wire crossing, named « Between Two Slag Heaps – Open Lines », is organised as part of the European Heritage Days and the European Destination Terrils II project. Tatiana Mosio-Bongonga previously performed in Lens in 2019 during the Constellation Imaginaire festival. When she saw the Loos-en-Gohelle slag heaps, she declared: « One day, I’ll go there. » That day has come!
🎪 A full festive day:
– From 3pm: activities at Base 11/19, guided tours, picnic area, food on site
– 4pm: the spectacular tightrope crossing
– The CPIE Chaîne des Terrils will offer guided tours on mining history and biodiversity
– 200 volunteers will take part by holding the stabilising cables
🌿 An eco-responsible event — The date was chosen according to the natural cycles of local wildlife and flora. Equipment carried on foot, limited environmental impact, preservation of the site: a commitment consistent with the area’s sustainable identity.
